Dupuit solutions are compared to exact solutions for the interface upconing of salt water below drains and ditches. Two cases of two-dimensional flow in the vertical plane are investigated. the steady upconing of flow below a drain and the transient upconing below three ditches. The Dupuit solution produces reasonable results; the resemblance between the Dupuit and exact solutions increases when the interface is shallower. The Dupuit solution overestimates the upconing for the steady-state solution but underestimates the upconing for the transient simulation.
