This paper deals with the evolution of the cnidoblast into a cnidocyt of the cnidaria. The nomenclature of the different kinds of cnidocysts is given. The morphological and chemical variations of the cnidocyt and its cnidocyst are examined successively.1. Morphological variations: The cnidogenesis’ stages are described according to our observations on Craspedacusta sowerbii and compared with the descriptions of the literature. The different controversy points are discussed and a new hypothesis is proposed about the absorption of the external tubule in the capsule.2. Chemical variations: The chemical evolution of the cnidocyst is briefly examined.
