Abstract
The unconfined aquifer in the coastal plain of Saidia (north-eastern Morocco) is characterized by the presence of salt water. It is composed of unconsolidated Quaternary deposits reaching levels down to -10 to -22 m. Its substratum is constituted by clay or marly clay of Miocene age. Borings with resistivity logging have provided information about the lateral and vertical distribution of groundwater quality. A freshening of groundwater is observed, mainly resulting from recharge in both dune belts. The evolution of the fresh- and salt-water flow and distribution has been modelled in a cross-section by means of a mathematical model, taking the resistivity loggings into account. This cross-section is perpendicular to the shoreline.
