Abstract
Aquaculture will continue to increase; it therefore can have more and more negative impacts at all levels of coastal biodiversity: habitat degradation, eutrophication, genetic effects on or competition with native species from non-indigenous cultured species, introduction of disease to natural populations . Large-scale aquaculture should move out of the sensitive coastal zones using technology, and legal means, that minimise environmental impacts.
