Abstract |
Therefore, in 2015 it was decided to build an integral coastal model within the TELEMAC-MASCARET model suite. The present report describes the setup and validation of the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model. The hydrodynamic model forms the basis of the final goal: the morphodynamic model. The hydrodynamic model will be coupled to the TOMAWAC spectral wave model and SISYPHE sediment transport and bed update model. The model is validated by comparison of the numerically predicted water levels and velocities against measured water levels, stationary velocities and velocities along transects (ADCP sailed) at several locations at the coast and the Western Scheldt estuary. The performance of Scaldis-Coast is found to be good at the Belgian coast but also in The Western Scheldt. For the water levels the total RMSE increases from 9 cm in the North Sea to 13 cm in the Western Scheldt towards Antwerp. The absolute value of the bias of water levels is equal or lower than 5 cm at most stations. |
