ICCOPS, Landscape, Natural and Cultural Heritage Observatory, was established in 1992 as ICCOPS - International Center for Coastal and Ocean Policy Studies with the aim of:
Serving as a point of reference for groups and experts in coastal- and ocean-related studies
Carrying out research projects into all aspects of integrated coastal management
Furthering international networking with similar institutions
Promoting meetings to discuss current practices and future trends in sea use management
As a non-governmental organization, ICCOPS has the observer status for the Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/MAP) and for the Commission on Sustainable Development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC/CSD). ICCOPS membership includes over 40 entities from 15 countries, comprising universities and research centres, local territorial authorities, as well as public and private enterprises. |
