Abstract
The Vth Framework Concerted Action BIOMARE  (2000-2002) generated the idea of European Marine Biodiversity Research Sites - a selection of localities where the marine biodiversity research should be focused in coming years. MARBENA - another Vth Framework Shared Cost activity, deals with the implementation of BIOMARE research agenda. The Bay of Puck in the southern Baltic have been selected as the site with long term biodiversity record, thus representing the class of  European Marine Biodiversity Monitoring Sites (or Long Term Biodiversity Research Site).
