Abstract
This is a study using mathematical models of the coastline evolution of the eastern Po-plain due to sea level change caused by climate variation and to natural and anthropic subsidence.

The coastal plane of the northern Adriatic sea is strongly influenced by natural and anthropic subsidence: its inpact on the coastal changes is amplified be the sea level changes. The aim of the study is to forecast the coastline evolution using numerical simulation models of the different physical phenomena that influenced the coastline morphology The reasearch will be developed on two scales. At the MACRO SCALE will be collected, analysed and homogenised all the data available from the previous studies and will be performssed a REGIONAL SUBSIDENCE MODEL to evaluate the natural trend of this phenomenon on the north Adriatic -coast. At the LOCAL SCALE, on several particular sites located in the Emilia-Romagna coast, the interaction between natural and anthropic subsidence (due to groundwater withdrawal and gas exploitation) and sea level rise will be evaluated and the coastline evolution, also due to hydrodynamics and morphological effects, will be forecasted. The tools for the study will be: a general DATA BASE, GIS supported, for the collection and comparison of the data; a PRE-POST/PROCESSING STRUCTURE for the analysis and collection of the model results and for the input/output operations; a SIMULATION PACKAGE of the relevant processes.
The benefits of the research are the following ones: a global knowledge on the coastline evolution will be collected on the north Adriatic coast, particularly important because of the vast interested region, the presence of human settlements, the historical and artistical goods and the turistic development; the local Authorities will have specific information on the coastline evolution aimed towards the emanation of policies that will help controlling and reducina morphology impacts and to preserve the coastal landscape.
