Abstract
Experimental work was carried out in an area of variable salinity where scandesmus spp were autochtonic in origin. Salinity tolerances for various species were analyzed. According to the reaction of S. protuberans to different salinities, it was possible to divide the total salinity range into 3 sections, 0.3 ppt to 3.5 ppt, 3.5 ppt to 10 ppt and 10 ppt and above. It is concluded that S. protuberans is adapted to salinities up to 3.5 ppt. Survival through periods with salinity more than 3.5 ppt depends on the frequency of these maxima.
