| Abstract |
In the past, European countries have mainly promoted their own national flood research without comprehensive coordination between their programmes, entailing the risk of redundancies and of neglecting potential synergies. The vision of the CRUE network on flooding is to support and develop an extensive coordination and integration of regional, national and European research policies, projects and programmes in the field of Flood Risk Management (FRM).The results of the research financed by the CRUE network partners is an input in the ongoing discussions in the EU Member States for the implementation of the EU Floods Directive (2007/60/EC) in the stage of the preliminary assessment of flood risk, the establishment of flood hazard and flood risk maps and flood risk management plans on the level of the international river basin districts. FRM plans are developed for potentially endangered river basins, coastal areas and other flood-prone areas by 2015. The first common funding initiative of CRUE was about Risk Assessment and Risk Management: Effectiveness and Efficiency of Non-structural Flood Risk Management Measures. The second initiative, presented at this conference, is the result of 7 projects working on the theme Flood resilient communities – managing the consequences of flooding. |
