Abstract
In the framework of the project “840_02: Bevaarbaarheid Boven Zeeschelde en zuidelijk vak Ringvaart voor Va schepen” the accessibility of the Upper Sea Scheldt for ships of category Va is studied. There are some bottlenecks which have to be resolved in order to increase the economic capacity of inland navigation traffic.

Different scenarios are simulated to study effects of certain changes on the navigability of the Upper Sea Scheldt. These scenarios are analyzed with 1D and 2D numerical models. The analysis is based on the comparison of the calculated high and low water levels as well as tidal volumes.
