Abstract
Psammomacrostomum equicaudum from the bay of Arcachon shows by means of several features characteristic adaptations to the interstitial environment: an extreme dorsoventral flattening off, a strong adhesive power, many touch bristles, and the development of a particular caudal touch thread as well as the lack of eyes. Within the genital system, the development of paired testicles and ovaries surely represents a plesiomorphous stage; the lack of an antrum femininum perhaps is to regard as an apomorphous character. An essential feature of the genus Psammomacrostomum is the protrudable ductus ejaculatorius, a cirrus internus, surrounded by a cirrus bag. This duplex-type of the male genital organ was unknown within the order Macrostomida.
