| Abstract |
The siphoned Japan weed Dasysiphonia japonica is native to the Pacific Ocean. In the neighbouring countries of Belgium, the species spread rapidly, presumably after the importation of oysters to France in 1984. In 2014, the species got sighted for the first time in Belgium, in Zeebrugge. So far, the pontoons in the marina of Zeebrugge are the only known location in Belgium where the species occurs. The siphoned Japan weed occurs in the lower intertidal and sublittoral zones, where it often grows on stones or oysters and in places shielded from wave action. |
