| Abstract |
The freshwater hydroid Cordylophora caspia is found in both fresh and brackish water. Its area of origin is the Caspian and the Black Sea. By attaching to hulls and/or floating material (e.g. plant material), this polyp reached the brackish waters of western Europe via rivers and canals. The first European observation occurred along the Swedish coast in 1814. In Belgium, the hydroid was first observed in 1905 at Nieuwpoort. |
