Abstract |
This paper addresses wetting and drying using the TELEMAC finite element code in two-dimensional and three-dimensional simulations. Simulations with wetting and drying in TELEMAC can be challenging, especially in situations where the bottom slope is large. Here, high velocity values are regularly encountered, that sometimes can lead to instabilities and crashes of the model and often limit the time step of the simulations, thus increasing the calculation time. In this paper the TELEMAC finite element wetting and drying algorithm is studied. Some alternative methods for the wetting and drying scheme are implemented, which are tested in theoretical test cases as well as in a simplified version of the Scheldt Estuary model. |
