Abstract
The intensity of the drop in lime-content in soils depends on several pedogenetic factors, namely climate, time, parent material, 'organisms' and topography. Although time seems to be the most important factor in the process of decalcification, it is obvious that in the Belgian polder area other factors, as organisms (vegetation), topography (drainage conditions) and parent material (texture) may pass by the factor time.
