| Abstract |
The history of the Cyprus trawl and inshore fisheries is described, and the potential of the resources as well as the level of exploitation under the old management regime are assessed. The spectacularly positive effects of the extension of the closed season to protect the recruits are described both from the biological and economic points of view. A discussion is offered on the problem of regulation of the age at first capture and mesh size in a situation of severe overfishing. |
