Abstract
    "The purpose of the Commission is to promote scientific investigation with a view to learning more about the nature and resources of the oceans through the concerted action of its members". (Statutes, Article 1, paragraph 2.)The Commission held the eleventh session of its Assembly in Unesco Headquarters in Ocotber/Nevember 1979. Delegates from 8 Member States and representatives from 18 intergovernmental and non-governmental bodies attended. This report contains a summary of the discussions which took place during the session both in Preparatory Meetings and Plenary. The 39 resolutions which were adopted are given in full in Annex II.During the session, the traditional Bruun Memorial Lectures were presented; this year the theme followed was "Marine Environment and Resources in the Ocean". Abstracts are given in Annex VI. The full lectures will be published in the IOC Technical Series.For convenience, the resolutions adopted at the tenth session of the Executive Council, FAO headquarters, ROME, 19-23 June 1978, and at its eleventh session, Mexico City, 28 February-3 March 1979, will be found at the twelth session of the Executive Council.
