Abstract
Survey data on the distribution of individual age groups of cod (Gadus morhua) in the North Sea exhibit marked annual differences in the ambient temperature. There is no indication that these differences are related to a certain preferred temperature, not at least for the juveniles. Juvenile cod are exposed to the highest water temperatures in late summer and autumn, and the lowest temperatures in winter. This analysis may provide a better basis for the study of annual growth differences and the effect of temperature on digestion rates.
