Abstract
A total of 13 meiofaunal taxa were identified from the samples from 6 stations in te southern bight of the North Sea in spring 1985. Five of the taxa, Nematoda, Copepoda, Turbellaria, Polychaeta and Hydrozoa, were found at all 6 stations. R, or the ratio of Nematoda to Copepoda (N:C), varied from 1.2 to 30.7. Station 701 and 435 were clearly distinguished from the others in lower taxonic diversity and higher R value. The results were used for ecological monitoring environmental quality of the area. it was concluded that the meiobenthic communities in station 701 and 435 had been influenced by heavy pollution. The sources of the pollutants for station 701, were imputed to the hung industrial wastes and sewage carried by river, Western Scheldt, and for station 435, to the TiO d2 waste-dumping.
