Abstract
    Physical model tests were conducted to estimate the overtopping wave force acting on vertical walls which represented buildings on top of dikes. The result showed that the force can be related to the mean wave energy density and the dimensionless run-up height thereby accounting for the freeboard as it is present above the still water level.
