Abstract
In the framework of a more general investigation aimed at assessing the sea-water encroachement hazard in all the Sardinian coastal areas, a detailed hydrogeological study has been carried out in the coastal aquifers of the Posada territory (North-East Sardinia).Characterized by extensive salt-, brackish- and fresh-water basins inland connected with the sea, this coastal area would certainlly have been affected by sea-water intrusion, also because of the existence of a dam not far from the coast, which reduces the recharge of the unconfined coastal aquifers.Although extremely vulnerable to sea-water encroachement, this area still remains only marginally affected by this phenomenon thanks to a correct land planning policy.
