Abstract
A physical laboratory model has been made to test the feasibility of employing electrical methods to counteract sea-water encroachment. The possibility of using a system of electrodes placed in the soil to create an electric barrier against salt-water intrusion has been verified by simulating filtration flow in a phreatic sandy aquifer.A number of tests have been carried out with D.C. and A.C. of different frequencies. The efficiency of the system has been assessed by comparing the variation in time of salinity due to progressive salt- water encroachment with salinity variation recorded during a standard test carried out without energizing the soil.
