Multifunctional flood defenses protect areas against flooding, butserve other functions as well. Although these types of defensescan be seen almost everywhere, they pose special technical andgovernance challenges.This book is about a unique interdisciplinary research programdeveloped to tackle some of the issues designers and managersof multifunctional flood defenses are confronted with, and also toprovide some practical solutions. The book discusses a variety ofcase studies, but also considers the difficulties involved in settingup an interdisciplinary study with PhD students from differentfields.
