The mudworm Polydora colonia was described from the Atlantic coast of North America. In 1983 it was discovered for the first time in Europe, in the Mediterranean Sea, and in 2018 on the Atlantic southwest coast of France. On 15 January 2022 ten specimens of the mudworm Polydora colonia were collected in the Oosterschelde (the Netherlands) from about 300 ml of pieces of the sponge Celtodoryx ciocalyptoides. This is the first European record north of the southwest coast of France.
