Abstract
This paper reports finds of Mulinia lateralis (Say, 1822) from its native area, which is the western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from theGulf of St Lawrence to the Gulf of Mexico and also from the North Sea, more specific from The Netherlands and the Belgian coast. Since June2017 the presence of the dwarf surf clam has often been reported in the Dutch coast waters (a.o. Craeymeersch et al., 2019) and since January 2019 also on the Belgian beaches between Bredene and Knokke (Kerckhof, 2019; Vansteenkiste, 2021; Bauwens, 2021). A comparison between representatives from the W Atlantic and those found in Belgian coastalwaters has been made and differences between Mulinia lateralis (Say, 1822) and Spisula subtruncata (da Costa, 1778) are commented and figured.
