Abstract |
The Brown bryozoan Bugula neritina was first observed in Belgium (Ostend) in 1999. Its exact origin is not completely certain, but it is likely native to the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and was introduced to Europe via maritime transport. The species is typically found in the intertidal zone of port areas and bays, attached to both natural (stones, seaweed) and artificial substrates. The presence of the Brown bryozoan near aquaculture facilities or port areas can therefore also have potential economic consequences related to the removal of the species. |
