Abstract
The Japanese marine isopod Ianiropsis serricaudis is native to the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The species was introduced to Western Europe via shipping (ballast water or hull fouling) or through the import of commercial shellfish. In the Netherlands (Neeltje Jans), the species was first observed in 2000. In Belgium, this marine isopod has been recorded several times in the Zeebrugge port area since September 2015, and in 2023 it was also observed in the Sluice Dock of Ostend. Due to its small size and the taxonomic complexity within the Janiridae family, the species is likely more widespread than has been documented to date.
