Abstract |
The Round goby Neogobius melanostomus is a bottom-dwelling fish native to the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The species got mainly transported via ballast water to other parts of Europe and North America, but can also spread naturally. Neogobius melanostomus was first observed in the Scheldt estuary near Antwerp in 2010. Nowadays, the Round goby is widespread and found in large numbers in the River Meuse and the Albert Canal. Other canals and rivers are also colonised by the Round goby, including the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal and the Sea Scheldt. |
