Abstract
The maritime zone that is under the jurisdiction of the Belgium state may be rather limited (about 3600 km2) nevertheless it is characterised by a very high density of human activity. This paper shortly describes some of these activities and presents the management approach that is followed for some of the concrete problems raised by these activities. An initial brief description of the hydrodynamic model used operationally is followed by links with various problems (oil pollution, sediment transport, sand and gravel extraction and functioning of the ecosystem). The system used to disseminate the information will also be presented as well as some of the international activities in which MUMM is involved.
