Shokoofeh’s research is focused on parasites of aquatic animals, in particular marine nematoda and helminths in freshwater systems. Combining morphological and molecular techniques Shokoofeh has discovered over 30 new species of marine and freshwater parasites. Shokoofeh’s works and interests in taxonomy of marine Nematoda has led to her involvement in WoRMS database since 2011. In this role, among her contributions are bringing together all parasite editors and potential new editors in a face to face workshop in 2016 which has led to several great outcomes, such as development of foundation for a parasite database as an outgrowth of WoRMS, recruiting new editors, addressing specific issues in regard to parasites data as well as working toward a large multi-author publication on parasite diversity. Shokoofeh is keen to take her contribution to WoRMS to the next level by joining the steering committee and to work on continuous improvement of the search interfaces to better serve various end-users, usefulness and reliability of the database as well as greater engagement of the steering Committee members with editors. Shokoofeh is a member of the council of the Australian Society for Parasitology, a believer in science for public and ran several outreach activities and public lectures to improve the knowledge and raise awareness about parasites. Taxonomic term: Nematoda [WoRMS]
