| Abstract |
A classification for European salt marshes has been drafted, based on the origin of the substrate, the main geological agency and the morphology in relation to the ecological conditions. The classification has been applied to the salt-marsh sites in the Council of Europe member states and Finland. The occurrence and areas of the types have been described. |
