The Associate Laboratory, CIMAR, was created in March 2002 from two research centres: the Centre of Marine and Environmental Research of the University of Porto (CIIMAR.UP) and the Centre of Marine Sciences of the University of Algarve (CCMAR.UA).
CIMAR is dedicated to research, and to the dissemination and transfer of technology in the area of Marine Sciences. Its main objective is to carry out basic and applied research on the processes occurring in aquatic ecosystems, including the study of impacts of human activities on these ecosystems.
CIMAR provides also post-graduate training to students in several fields related to the Marine & Environmental area. The total number of researchers and students working at this moment in CIMAR (Porto and Algarve) is approximately 500, 154 of which with PhD. |
