Abstract |
During 1976-1986 extensive hydraulic studies were carried out for the design and construction of the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier. The studies related to the water movement formed a substantial part of these hydraulic studies. The study and also the design and the construction period, more or less coincided with the rapid development of the numerical flow models. In the evaluation at first a description is given of the estuarine system and hydraulic boundary conditions. Modelling tidal flow and the simulations of the storm surge barrier are considered. Discusses hydraulic scale models, one-dimensional models, IMPLIC-R1495 and two-dimensional numerical tidal models. The results of the study are comparised with field data. |
