Deep-sea gastropods of the genus Pagodula Monterosato, 1884 from the New Zealand region, Australia and the Tasman Sea are reviewed. Seventeen Recent species are recognised, including Trophon araios Houart & Engl, 2007, T. macquariensis Powell, 1957, T. pulchellus Schepman, 1911 and T. veronicae Pastorino, 1999, newly referred to the genus, P. plicilaminata (Verco, 1909), and eleven species described as new. An additional species from South Australia, represented by a syntype of T. plicilaminatus, is left unnamed. Lectotypes are designated for Pagodula carduelis (Watson, 1882), P. obtuselirata (Schepman, 1911) and P. pulchella (Schepman, 1911). The New Zealand Early Miocene species P. vegrandis P Marshall & Murdoch, 1923 and Pagodula waitemataensis (Powell & Bartrum, 1929) are transferred from Pagodula to Pagodula sensu lato and Xymene Iredale, 1915 respectively for want of more appropriate locations. All known living Pagodula species are listed in an appendix, of which the following are newly referred to the genus: Trophon arnaudi Pastorino, 2002, T. columbarioides Pastorino & Scarabino, 2008, T. declinans Watson, 1882, Boreotrophon golikovi Egorov, 1992, Trophon poirieria Powell, 1951, and T. ziczac Tiba, 1981. |
