Abstract |
Using time-dependent, linear, reduced gravity equations (gravity waves are filtered out), an analytical coupled air-sea interaction model is constructed. Parabolic cylinder functions Dn(y) are used to solve partial differential equations. The variables are expanded into the first three terms of Dn(y) series in the y-direction. Then the approximative wave solutions of the coupled atmosphere-ocean system (AOS) are obtained. According to the dispersion relationship of the coupled AOS, for coupling parameters in a certain interval, the waves which are symmetric to the equator, are unstable. If the coupling parameters are too large or too small, there is no unstable phenomenon in the coupled AOS. Under certain conditions, the AOS has an eastward propagating wave caused by air-sea interactions. The physical explanation for the air-sea interaction wave is given. Horizontal distributions of the coupled AOS are analysed and depicted also. The unstable feedback process and the possible relationship of the above results with ENSO events are explored. |
