Abstract
The spatial and temporal variation in abundance and composition of meiobenthos were researched. The studywas done in four stations in subtidal of Havana City, Cuba. Two stations are defined as reference and two assubmissive to different types of contamination and differential oceanographic conditions. Samples were taken indry (february - april) and rainy season (september - november) in 2001 using a corer of 6.16 cm2 area. In order to sort the animals of sediment its use sieves with maximum 1 mm and minimum 0.1 mm mesh aperture. In basis to cumulative curves its knew that six sampling units is a optimum sample size. There is significant spatial variation caused probably by effects of contamination dumping by Almendares River and Havana Bay. In river’s mouth the contamination cause a distinctive community dominated by copepods and polychaetes, and with low densities of epibenthonic organisms. In entrance of Havana’s bay the estuarine circulation cause resuspension of sediment, this can be the major factor that conform community structure. There is temporal variation in the taxonomic composition probably by effect of contamination.
