Abstract |
1. Information on the micro-scale distribution of fishing activities on the Dutch Continental Shelf was derived from automated position registration systems. This enabled a better assessment of their impact on the benthic fauna.2. A direct gradient analysis points to a globally significant difference in species composition between intensively fished and less heavily fished locations. It is, however, very likely that the major part of these differences is not related to differences in trawling effort but to differences in environmental factors.3. Differences in fishing effort between areas best explained the differences that occurred in spionid worm densities. |
