Beschrijving:The ability to accurately predict both static and dynamic stability of air and sea vehicles using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods could revolutionize the vehicle design process for NATO air and sea vehicles. A validated CFD capability would significantly reduce the number of ground tests required to verify vehicle concepts and, in general, could eliminate costly vehicle ‘repair’ campaigns required to fix performance anomalies that were not adequately predicted prior to full-scale vehicle development. The scope of this Specialists’ Meeting is to assess the state-of-the art in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods for the prediction of static and dynamic stability and control characteristics of military vehicles. The objectives are to determine the applicability and use of computational fluid dynamics methods for prediction of vehicle aerodynamics and motions and the ability to model vehicle stability and control characteristics for typical configurations for air and sea vehicles, as well as to assess the achievement of well documented and complete experimental test cases and experimental environments and to outline the requirements for improving prediction methods for the futur. |
