Abstract |
To make fish migration possible in the Upper Scheldt River the Flemish government ordered the construction of fish passages around the weirs in Asper, Kerkhove and Oudenaarde. The efficiency of these weirs depends on the attractiveness and the passability of the passage. Design demands were imposed after scale model test by Flanders Hydraulic Research. The effectiveness of the constructed passages has never been assessed in the field. The attractiveness and passability of the fish passage in Oudenaarde is investigated during a field measurement campaign on March 16th 2014. Later on a scale model is built to compare the field measurement data with scale model tests. The results show that the attraction current in Oudenaarde doesn’t fulfil the initial requirements. Under design conditions it can’t reach the opposed bank. The scale model tests shows comparable results. Velocities are of the same magnitude and flow directions compare well. Scale models can thus be used to design or investigate attraction currents. |
