Abstract |
In contact with the ocean, the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) starts to float and forms ice shelves. These ice shelves have an important role in the AIS stability, acting as active regulators of the upward ice streams. In this article, we extract from four years of Sentinel-1 SAR images ice velocity fields. Using speckle tracking, we determine the ice velocities at high spatial and temporal resolution over the particular case of the Roi Baudouin Ice Shelf - RBIS. The results show the strong influence of ice rises, as well as intra-annual temporal variability, a part being attributable to tides and inverse barometer effect. Apart from these variations, we observe no significant trend in any regions of the RBIS. Nevertheless, and following the recent RBIS calving event, we recommend continuing to monitor the region and observing any potential changes. |
