Abstract: |
CETMAR is a Public Foundation promoted by the Regional Department of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs and the General Directorate or R+D of the Government of Galicia -Xunta de Galicia- together with the former Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology, currently the Spanish try of Science and Innovation.
As an inter-institutional meeting point and cooperation entity, it is represented by a Board of Trustees whose members, among the main promoters, are: the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), the University of A Coruña (UDC), the University of Vigo (UVI), the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), The High Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), the Regional Department of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Regional Department of Education and University Organization, The General Secretariat of Maritime Fisheries (MAPYA), the National Technical Centre for the Conservation of Fisheries Products (CECOPESCA) and the European Reference Laboratory of Vigo (Ministry of Health and Consumption).
CETMAR aims to contribute to improve the conditions for the sustainable development of marine resources and in this framework, to increase the efficiency of the sectors within fisheries, aquaculture and seafood processing, along with all those activities directly or indirectly linked to the use and exploitation of the sea and its resources. The main strategies are focused on the achievement of a higher degree of inter-institutional cooperation and interdisciplinary integration of the R+D resources available and a higher involvement of the target production sector in the development of R+D and technological development activities..
As a Galician Foundation, CETMAR develops its activities not only in Galicia but also undertakes a number of initiatives at a national, European and international scope. The beneficiaries of these activities are all public and private sectors of the EU or third countries related to the sea and its products: fisheries, shellfish gathering and aquaculture; manufacturing, processing and preservation of seafood; trading, and all those sectors which somehow depend on the sea. |
