Abstract
To prevent coastal flooding via the port of Zeebrugge, storm retaining walls need to be designed for which hydrodynamic boundary conditions are required. The wave conditions during an extreme storm event in particular were determined by doing numerical wave penetration modelling. Comparison between both a linear (MILDwave) and a non-linear (Mike 21BW) wave penetration model and comparison with field measurements shows that the influence of a long navigation channel and short crested waves cannot be neglected. Comparison with the regular wave physical model results shows the importance of including an accurate bathymetry.
