Abstract |
A series of experiments have been carried out in the DHI Shallow Water Basin in order to identify possible effects of a double peaked wave spectrum on sediment transport related processes. Wave conditions for different tests were chosen on the basis of a constant total amount of energy but with different distribution of this energy in the two peaks. Results show an increase in time averaged concentrations when a small swell component is added to a wind sea dominated spectrum. Similarly, a reduction takes place when a small wind sea component is added to a spectrum accounting for swell conditions. The analysis of the vertical distribution of turbulence and bed roughness features provides indicators of the origin of these variations in suspended sediment concentrations. |
