Abstract
The macrozoöbenthos model of Cozzoli et al. [1] uses maximum flow velocity, inundation time, daily averaged salinity and daily salinity range to assess habitat suitability. A 2Dh hydrodynamic TELEMAC model of the Scheldt Estuary with a bathymetry of 1955 was built and calibrated for water levels. The hydrodynamic parameters and the tracer values for salinity are used as input for the macrozoöbenthos model to assess the ecological situation of the estuary in 1955. This paper discusses mainly the difficulties of retrieving the right boundary conditions and parameter settings for this model. The mesh resolution influences model parameters like tracer diffusivity and velocity diffusivity so they can’t be taken from a different calibrated model.
