Abstract |
In earlier studies the flooding of the Belgian coastal plain was modelled by means of a number of partially overlapping submodels, each representing a specific sector. For future studies, it would be preferable to use a single model, covering the entire coastal plain. The aim of this project was to identify the feasibility of building such a single model. Two different approaches were evaluated in parallel. The first was based on the commercial software package "MIKE FLOOD" and the second on the open source software package "TELEMAC". This subreport covers the evaluation of the software package TELEMAC. The tests described in this report suggest that it is feasible to build a single model for the entire Belgian coastal plain by means of the software package TELEMAC. The computational requirements are acceptable and the model output can be processed into flood hazard, flood damage and flood victim maps. However, not all the required functionality is available yet. As a result, some additional efforts are required before TELEMAC can be used for project purposes. |
