| Abstract |
The aim of this project is to gain a better insight in the possibilities of ADCP-BT for measuring near-bed and bed load transport. This technique has already been used (cfr. Nevelsteen, Rennie, …) and has the advantage that ADCP-backscatter is already used to gain information on the sediment transport in the measuring range of the ADCP. Nowadays several data sets already exist (Cfr. Half-tide ebb, slack transects, 13h-campaigns MONEOS), which lead to opportunities for extra analysis of new techniques. One of the uncertainties with the ADCP-BT technique is the thickness of the mobile bed layer. Where the velocity of this layer can be measured using the ADCP-BT, the thickness of the layer will determine the actual sediment transport. Therefore this aspect will be focussed on, besides the general applicability of the technique.
The research has the following setup: • Laboratory experiments: flume experiments with mobile bed (different grain sizes – uniform + mixtures) |
